1. Annual General Meeting – 25th January 2015 The 26th Annual general Meeting of the Association of Old Mahindians in the United Kingdom (AOMUK) was held on Sunday the 25th January 2015 from 11 am – 3 pm at Mammas Nepalese Restaurant in Hounslow Middlesex.UK The agenda of the AGM:

Annual General Meeting – 25th January 2015 "Mahinda Nite 2012" annual dinner dance was held on Saturday the 10th November 2012 at Holiday Inn Brentford lock, Middlesex 3. “Peduru Sajjaya” : 27 June 2015 A Paduru patiya will be held on the 27 June 2015 at Rising Sun Hotel 138 Greenford Road Sudbury Hill Harrow HA1 3QL from 7PM to 1AM. Please come and dance to the music of Manju Munasighe (Sky High) and have a tasty Sri Lankan meal. Tickets will limited at £20 for adults and £10 for Children (2-10 years). "Mahinda Nite 2015" annual dinner dance : 10 October 2015 "Mahinda Nite 2012" annual dinner dance will be held at Holiday Inn – London Wembley, Empire Way, Wembley, HA9 8DS from 7PM to 1AM. Annual ALMS giving: July 2015 We are planning to hold the Annual Alms Giving in the month of July in 2015 at London Buddhist Vihara, Chiswick, London W4 1UD. The date is not fixed yet. Annual Dinner Dance of Mahinda College Galle Sri Lanka (“Mahinda Nite”) at Holiday Inn in Wembley on 4th October 2014 The Annual Dinner Dance of the past students of Mahinda College, Galle, Sri Lanka was held at The Holiday Inn, Wembley amongst a large gathering on 4th October 2014. For the Association of old Mahindians in the United Kingdom (AOMUK), this was a very significant year celebrating their 25th inception of this organisation. The ceremony was initiated by lighting of the oil lamp by the President of AOMUK ,Dr.CHL Abayasiriwardana and the invited guests. Mr. Chandrasiri Mendis introduced the evening programme. Dr.CHL Abayasiriwardana, stated in his President’s speech that he was honoured to be the President of the AOMUK again for the 25th the President of the Association’s first year in 1989. He reminded that AOMUK was founded on sound footings at an old Mahindian Mr. Ismail’s residence in Cricklewood , North London on 4th September 1989. In his speech to fellow Mahindians and well wishers, President pointed out that the main aim of the organisation was to help the Alma Mater in education, sports, social and welfare of the students and the college. The Association has been successful in raising funds to meet these aims, to name a few of these, provision of a fully equipped computer centre in 1992, donation of sports gear, donation of science books to college library, sponsorship of fifteen college students who were less privileged to pursue their studies until the university, contribution towards education of son of a fallen war hero and installing modern state of the art CCTV system throughout the college premises. The history of Mahinda College goes back over a century. Mahinda College was founded by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott who has been one of the heroes in the struggle for independence and pioneer of Buddhist national and cultural revival in Sri Lanka.He was also the president of The Theosophical society which helped to create the renaissance in the study of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.President of AOMUK also reminded in his speech that great scholars like Ananda Samarakoon who was the father of the national anthem of Sri Lanka ,was a music teacher at Mahinda College where he first composed the national anthem and sang it at the College’s famous “Olcott Hall”. Mahinda College and its Olcott Hall has been linked with great world renowned leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and also Rabindranath Tagore, who won the Noble Prize for literature and also composed the national anthem of India, where they have addressed the students, well wishers of the college and the dignitaries. He also reminded that the past Principal’s contributions were invaluable towards the progress of the college. President also thanked the past presidents of AOMUK and also welcomed the inaugural members to the stage giving special mention. President thanked all the members their spouses and families for their invaluable help & support in organising the event and also for their continued support to the organisation. The guests enjoyed a tasty Sri lankan meal and dancing to great music provided by a popular Band “Sky High”. Dancers from Salsa dance club performed an exciting dance routine followed by demonstration of dance steps and guest participation which was thoroughly enjoyable. The raffle ticket was also one of the major events of the night helping to raise more funds and making some guests even happier winning prizes on the night!! It has been a memorable evening to all as the singing and dancing continued to late night. The celebration of Mahinda Nite 2014 came to an end by singing the college song and the national anthem of Sri Lanka and Great Britain. The AOMUK members, their families and well wishers have yet again joined together to make this 25th Anniversary Dinner dance, very enjoyable and successful. Well done All! Bandulal Gunawardene 7. Resolutions: The following resolutions have been proposed: 8. "Mahinda Nite 2012" annual dinner dance : 10 November 2012 "Mahinda Nite 2012" annual dinner dance was held on Saturday the 10th November 2012 at Holiday Inn Brentford lock, Middlesex 9. Mahinda Vs Richmond annual cricket encounter: 9 September 2012 Mahinda Vs Richmond annual cricket encounter 2012 was held on 9th September 2012 at Great HollandS Recreation Ground, South Road, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 3EE. 10. Annual ALMS giving: 17 June 2012. The Annual Alms Giving was held on the 17 of June 2012 at London Buddhist Vihara, Chiswick, London W4 1UD 11. Annual General Meeting: 22 January 2012. The 24th Annual general Meeting of the Association of Old Mahindians in the United Kingdom (AOMUK) was held on Sunday the 22nd of January 2012, at the Passage to India, 170, Heston road, Heston, Middlesex, TW5 0QU. 12. Annual General Meeting: 7 December 2008 The 20th Annual general Meeting of the Association of Old Mahindians in the United Kingdom (AOMUK) was held on the 7th of December 2008 at the Lihiniya Restaurant, 66 Cricklewood Broadway, London, NW2 3EP. The Joint Secretaries presented Annual Reports, which described the activities during the last year and the Treasurer tabled the accounts for the year which has been audited by the Honorary Auditor. The President in his address highlighted the events during the year and reiterated the association's objective to support the alma mater. A new Committee of Management appointed and there was a long and detailed discussion on various affairs such as the constitution, fund raising and how best to use the finances etc.
13. Donation of Computers , Projector and Screen At the request of the Mahinda College, 5 Dell computers with the latest software packages to the value of Rs. 155,000.00 were donated to the Computer Centre of the College in May 2007. These five computers together with the computers provided by the AOMUK at various times in the recent past will help the students of the college to obtain a good knowledge in Information Technology. Furthermore a multi-media projector and a large screen were also provided at an expense of Rs.150,000.00 in May 2007. These equipments will be used in the lecture theatres enabling the large number of students to follow the classes easily even from a distance and hope it will improve their education. 14. Donation of Laboratory Equipment for the College After communicating with the Principal of Mahinda College in order to find out the priority needs of the College, a large consignment of laboratory equipment worth Rs. 300,000.00 was provided to the college in August 2007. 15. The Annual Dinner dance “Mahinda Nite” After n absence of a few years, the main fund raising event of the year, the “Mahinda Nite” dinner dance was held on Saturday the 2nd June 2007 at C & L Country Club, Ruislip, Middlesex. It was a great success attended by Old Mahindians and well wishers who enjoyed the lively music of the Band Diversity and danced till the midnight. The AOMUK thanks Mr Raja Samaraweera, an Old Mahindian, for sponsoring the band and all other well wishers who made the event successful and thus helped the AOMUK to raise a considerable amount of funds, which will be used to improve the education and the facilities of the students of Mahinda College.
16. The Founders’ Day alms giving The annual Founders’ Day alms giving was held on 16th September at London Buddhist Vihara in Chiswick under the auspices of the new chief incumbent of the Vihara, Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala Thero. A large contingent of Old Mahindians, their families and well wishers gathered on this occasion, alms were offered with Ata Pirikara and the merits were offered to the founders including Colonel Olcott and Mr Woodward, all other tutorial and administrative staff and well wishers who have helped the development of Mahinda College. The sermons were given by both by Ven Bellanwila Dhammaratana thero, the chief incumbent of the Bellanwila Temple, Dehiwala, who was visiting the UK at the time and Ven Bogoda Seelawimala thero.
17. Participation at the Festival of Cricket Our Association has been particpating in the Festivel of Cricket for a number years, winning the Champions Trophy twice in the recent part. In the 2007 tournament, Mahinda team was successful in the first match, winning against the Old Rihmondites but was defeated at the next match. AOMUK thanks the cricket team for the sportamanship shown and hope and wish success next year.
18. Annual General Meeting: 3rd of December 2006 The 18th Annual General Meeting of the AOMUK was held on Sunday the 3rd of December 2006 at the Lihiniya Restaurant in London under the presidency of Dr C H L Abayasiriwardane. A large gathering of Old Mahindians were present with their families and well wishers. For the Old Mahindians, it was a time to reminisce the past and their younger days at the College and also to catch up with the latest news of the College. The Joint Secretaries presented Annual Reports, which described the activities during the last year and the Treasurer tabled the accounts for the year which has been audited by the Honorary Auditor. The President in his address highlighted the events during the year and reiterated the association's objective to support the alma mater. He informed the gathering that during the last year the Association had better communication with the College, identified the priorities of the requirements of the College and have started a large project on supplying equipment to Sports, Computer and Science departments. Dr Abayasiriwardane thanked all who supported the AOMUK activities during the year but specially mentioning the wives of the Committee members who have contributed much to the benefit of the association. A few individuals who deserved special thanks were mentioned by names. After the AGM, it was time to relax and to meet old friends and families. Everybody enjoyed a delicious Sri Lankan lunch sponsored by Mr Hasitha Dissanayake (Director, IMPEX Consultants), a Committee Member. The AOMUK thanks Mr. Dissanayake for this generous gesture.
